As college students, we are always in search of those cool, hip (not to mention close by) study spots. Lucky for us, Kirkland is filled to the brim with independent coffee shops at the touch of our fingertips. Here are 5 of the top coffee shops you will be sure to enjoy and see a few familiar faces from campus.
Urban Coffee Lounge
Slater 116: 12348 NE 115th PL, Kirkland, WA 98033
Juanita Village: 9744 NE 119th Way, Kirkland, WA 98034
If you’re a coffee snob, or are looking to become one, Urban Coffee Lounge is the perfect study spot for you. Brewing beans roasted by Stumptown, Urban’s espresso is the perfect balance of acidic, sweet and bitter. Not to mention their less than traditional concoctions like a Honey Cinnamon or Salted Maple lattes will hit the spot on a rainy afternoon.
104 Central Way, Kirkland, WA 98033
If you tend to walk to the beat of a different drum, Ladro will fit your quirk. Their baked fresh daily, less than ordinary pastries, such as Vegan Oat Bars (with Rhubarb), Gluten Free Almond Cranberry Cake and Chocolate Chip Espresso Cake, is the perfect pairing with any of their coffees. Speaking of which, be sure to try their signature drink, a Medici. Made with chocolate and a hint of orange zest, truly showing their desire to fashion something unique.
136 Park Ln, Kirkland, WA 98033
A popular spot for students of NU, Rococo is known for making their customers feel welcome. You will know what I’m talking about the second you walk through the door. Photos of regulars line the walls, giving a warm atmosphere. They also have live music, free to the public every Friday night starting around seven at night.
129 Central Way, Kirkland, WA 98033
Known for it’s super hip atmosphere, Zoka will make you feel like the coolest kid in town. Their huge windows, high ceilings and big wooden tables will catch your eye and make you want to study. Plus if you feel like mixing it up a bit, go for a Lavender Mocha or Iced Chai.
St. James Espresso
355 Kirkland Ave, Kirkland, WA 98033
The best part of St. James is its fireplace. Which makes it a great place to study on a sweatpants wearing, lazy, cold afternoon. St. James is also known to attract a wide array of people groups, allowing for some quality people watching. Not to mention their drink, Piper’s Gold is said to be on point (especially when made with nonfat milk).
