Kirkland, Wash. – The Kirkland Chamber of Commerce is providing discount tickets to students for the NW Investor Sharks event located at Kirkland Performance Art Center. NW Investor Sharks will be co-hosted at Kirkland Performance Art Center, located in Downtown Kirkland, on November 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

University students will be able to network with local businesses and employers at the meet and greet before the event from 6-7 p.m. Samantha St. John, Kirkland Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director, describes attendees as “local investors, entrepreneurs, people in the tech industry, and local business leaders, even some of the biggest names in the Northwest”—valuable contacts when it comes time to search for a job.

Beyond networking, the event provides would-be entrepreneurs, fundraisers, and sales associates the opportunity to see a public ask for money and what works. “The idea is, even if you are not on stage, you can watch and see what does and doesn’t work. You get an example of what it is like to give that sort of pitch,” St. John explains.

This event is not restricted to business majors; English and communication majors would benefit from seeing industry insiders use the art of persuasion to showcase their businesses. Regardless of one’s major, public speaking is a part of every job at some point, whether presenting an idea at a meeting or asking for a raise. St. John confirms the value of solid communication skills for young professionals: “[Business leaders] provide feedback to start-up companies, which proves valuable for any entrepreneurs looking to develop their own ideas.” As further incentive, the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce is offering free Northwest University T-shirts for the first 30 students who attend the event.
